Cloudflare edge testPerformance, not guesswork
Test your Ethernet connection.
A wired test is one of the best ways to separate your broadband performance from Wi-Fi limitations.
Ethernet gives you a cleaner baseline for broadband troubleshooting.
Connect directly to your router or network switch where possible, pause large transfers and run the test more than once. Then compare the result with Wi-Fi from the same device.
Ethernet removes most wireless interference
Walls, neighbouring networks and weak signal do not affect a wired link in the same way, making Ethernet useful when you want to isolate the broadband connection.
Check the link speed of your hardware
Older Ethernet ports, adapters or cables can cap throughput. A 100 Mbps link cannot deliver gigabit-class speeds no matter how fast the broadband package is.
Use wired results as your reference point
If Ethernet is close to the expected package speed but Wi-Fi is much slower, the local wireless network is the more likely bottleneck.
Ping should usually be steadier on a cable
Ethernet cannot fix internet routing or provider congestion, but it can remove wireless retransmissions and signal variation that add local latency.
Test with background traffic paused
Large downloads, cloud backups and other active devices can affect both wired and wireless results. A quiet network gives you the clearest baseline.
Repeat the same test over Wi-Fi
Using RaceMyNet for both tests gives you a like-for-like comparison of download, upload, ping, jitter and packet loss.
